Bulgarian industrial minerals company "Kaolin" announces an international children's drawing competition

WINNERS IN THE COMPETITION OF ‘KAOLIN’ AD

The competition is devoted to the European Day of Minerals 2011 (May 13-15) and is conducted under the patronage of IMA Europe

"Minerals, quarries and nature. Hand in hand!" drawing competition will start on 30 March 2011. It is organized by the Bulgarian Industrial minerals company "Kaolin" AD under the patronage of the Industrial Minerals Association Europe (IMA Europe). The competition is also organized and supported by the Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology (BCMG), Bulgarian Association of Manufacturers of Inert Materials (BAMIM) and the University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski” in Bulgaria (UMG).

The competition’s objective is to stimulate the creative imagination of children and young people under the theme, to support the talent of youngsters, who are the best ambassadors for nature conservation.

Quarries for extraction of industrial materials may not seem as a wildlife obvious partner, however, they often become home for rare or threatened species of animals and birds. Across Europe, a huge number of species of the flora and fauna registered in the official Red List find shelter in active or unused areas for mineral extraction. Thus, the mineral industry helps to reverse the trend for destruction of natural habitats, proving that it may be a partner in preservation of biodiversity – from the opening to the closing of extraction field of industrial minerals.

Participants have to be aged up to 14 and the best 12 drawings will be nominated on 9 May 2011 - Europe's day - by a jury. Results will be announced on 12 May 2011.

12 winners' drawings will be published on a 2012 company calendar. Winning talents will receive cases with drawing accessories. Some other 50 participants will receive awards. The big "Kaolin" AD prize winner will receive a mini laptop and it will be a drawing selected by the company. BCMG, BAMIM and UMG "St. Ivan Rilski" will also give awards.
